How does Flickship work?

Connect your Letterboxd account and we'll find people nearby who've watched the same films. Swipe through profiles — when two people both like each other, it's a match and you can start chatting.

Do I need a Letterboxd account?

Yes. Letterboxd is the foundation of Flickship — your watch history and ratings are what powers the matching. If you don't have one, you can create a free account at letterboxd.com.

How does the Letterboxd sync work?

Enter your Letterboxd username in your profile and tap Sync. We import your public watch history — films logged, ratings, and likes. Your Letterboxd profile must be set to public. We never ask for or store your Letterboxd password.

What does my profile need before I can start swiping?

A complete profile requires your name, date of birth, gender, location, a profile photo, and a verified Letterboxd username. You'll also need to confirm your email address before you can log in.

How does matching work?

We surface people who share at least 3 films with you, within your age range and distance preferences. When you both like each other's profile, it's a match — you'll get a push notification the moment it happens.

Why is this person being shown to me?

Every profile card shows compatibility reasons — a film you both watched recently, a director you both rate highly, or similar taste patterns overall. These are calculated directly from your combined watch histories.

Can I see someone again after I passed on them?

No. Swipe decisions are final. If you pass on someone they won't appear in your discovery queue again.

Why aren't I getting any matches?

A few things worth checking: make sure your Letterboxd profile is public and has been synced recently, verify your discovery filters (age range, distance) aren't too narrow, and ensure your profile has a photo. The more films you've logged, the more people we can match you with.

Why can't I message someone?

You can only message people you've mutually liked. Once you're matched, the chat opens automatically.

What does "clear conversation" do?

It hides all previous messages in that chat from your view. The other person's copy is unaffected — clearing only applies to your side of the conversation.

My messages aren't sending.

This is usually a connectivity issue. Check your internet connection and try again. If messages continue to fail, force-quit the app and reopen it — unsent messages are saved locally and will retry automatically.

Can I change my Letterboxd username?

Yes, from your profile settings. After updating the username you'll need to re-sync to verify the new account. Your existing matches and conversations are preserved.

My email verification code isn't arriving.

Check your spam or junk folder first. Codes expire after 15 minutes — if yours has expired, request a new one from the login screen. If the issue persists, contact us below.
